To be successful in growing our company, we must be intentional in growing our people. We develop leaders at all levels with both structured training and with on-the-job opportunities that test and strengthen skills.
Training: A testimonial for the value of our Managing Oneself: Empowering Others training was recently expressed by Brian Rose upon his acceptance of the acting General Manager role at 7-11 Materials: “I find it helpful to go back and refresh on what I learned in that course as I encounter new challenges. These resources are really helping me right now.” The company provides a variety of training tailored to the needs of individuals and the company. For example, Daniel Martin’s completion of the UC Davis Digital Marketing Boot Camp prepared him to succeed as Reed International’s Marketing Manager.
Growth Opportunities: ..come in all shapes and sizes. Aracely Gonzalez, Accounts Payable Supervisor, stepped forward to lead the Modesto 4th of July Parade volunteers this year. This “stretch” project tested her team-building and communications skills as she worked with a wide range of individuals to coordinate equipment, drivers, decorations, and food. Alex Mills (GRI – Safety Manager), Mariah Askan (HR- VSSI Arizonia), and Stephany Garcia (GRI - Weighmaster) joined the BUILD team this year and are testing their time management skills as they juggle day-to-day work with the opportunity to learn while serving on this important company-wide team.
The success of our efforts to develop leaders was especially evident at George Reed Inc. earlier this year as a series of promotions were announced for Stacy Case, Cory Turney, Stephanie Fuller, and Adam Hansen. Ed Berlier noted that “Our leaders are being challenged to mentor and train “their replacements” not only for future retirements but to allow the company to manage future opportunities and growth.”
We encourage everyone in the Reed Family Companies to be active in their own development through self-directed training with Reed Interactive University or by working with their supervisor to identify stretch projects and other opportunities to grow.
