Our commitment to environmental sustainability is fundamental to all operations in the Reed Family Companies:
George Reed Construction uses reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and rubber from recycled tires in new pavements. This reduces waste in landfills and decreases manufacture of new materials. Also, incorporating rubber into the asphalt mix extends the life of the pavement.
VSS pavement preservation materials and construction processes (Slurry Seal, Chip Seal, etc.) extend the life of existing pavements and reduce the frequency of repaving. This results in lower overall energy use because production of new hot mix asphalt is reduced. Also, pavement preservation processes often require less energy than traditional methods of milling and overlay.
Reed International manufactures VSS Macropaver and emulsion plants in support of pavement preservation with environmental benefits noted above. The KASI infrared pothole patching equipment produces a long life repair that meets sustainability goals by reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste, and promoting resource conservation by recycling asphalt.
7-11 Materials was the first company in the Central Valley to implement CarbonCure technology to permanently capture CO2 in concrete and thus reduce emissions to the atmosphere. In addition, the concrete plants minimize waste, use energy efficient practices, optimize transportation to reduce fuel use, and generate renewable solar energy. 7-11 Materials continuously innovates to reduce its carbon footprint.
The environmental stewardship practices at George Reed and 7-11 Materials quarries include minimizing dust and noise, using recycled water, managing stormwater and erosion, and reclaiming the land for future generations to enjoy.
The Leadership Team encourages each of you to take a moment to consider how you contribute to environmental stewardship, whether it’s through reducing waste, recycling materials, conserving energy, preserving/restoring natural habitats, or promoting sustainable practices. By fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, we are creating a positive legacy for future generations.
