Shirl Davis, Accountant Extraordinaire, Retires After 36 Years

Updated: Mar 3

Shirl Davis has been at Reed Family Companies for the past 36 years and is semi-retiring - she will be working at George Reed on a part-time basis. She is a great example of why we need women in construction. She is a major reason for the success of the Accounting Department.

Shirl started working as a bookkeeper a at George Reed in 1989 at the Table Mountain plant. She later became office manager at George Reed. She moved to Reed Family Companies when the company consolidated Accounting functions across our operational companies into the Shared Services department in the Modesto building headquarters . She was the Shared Services Manager for a couple years, then transitioned to the corporate Business Analyst in Accounting until she retired.

As a Business Analyst, part of her duties were as a cherished IT business partner. Shirl was

instrumental with the successful implementation of our ERP system (Vista) in 2017. She was the accounting representation for all Reed companies. Over the course of a year, she helped with the structuring of GL postings, validations and testing. Her input and direction helped make the Vista implementation a success.

Recently, she helped our companies become low-cost producers by working with Operations and IT to better understand our operation through the development of tonnage cost reports.

Shirl was the "go to" when it came to anything accounting or Vista. She was great with helping accounting with weird situations or anything new that touched accounting.

Shirl was always involved in company events like Go Red and Halloween costume contests. She was always the life of the party at company events.

With Shirl's extensive knowledge of the industry, and our business, she added value to everything or anybody she worked with. We need more people like Shirl Davis.
