My Hometown Heroes – Volunteer Opportunity to Review Applications
In 2010, Danny Heinsohn, celebrated his 10th year of remission from brain cancer and founded My Hometown Heroes – a national scholarship fund for college-bound cancer survivors. Our mission is to help bridge the gap between cancer and college, one scholarship at a time. Scholarship allocations are between $1,000 to $10,000 per recipient.
This is where you come in.
We wish we could fund each and every one of our applicants, but the reality is that we only have the financial resources to support 30% to 40% of those who apply.
This year, My Hometown Heroes has nearly 130 applications, and is looking for volunteers to review and score candidates for the 2024/2025 school year. Each reviewer will be asked to review either three pools (42 applicants), or six pools (84 applicants) for a 4- or 8-hour RFC reimbursement, respectively. Applications are distributed electronically, and each reviewer is responsible for scoring applicants on a 1-5 scale in five categories and turn-in the scores via a provided excel document. To sign up, please click on the link below, or email your first name, last name, company name, 4- or 8-hour designation, and email address to garrett.winkelmaier@g4tech.com.

My Hometown Hero Beginnings:
Battle Born in Reno, Nevada, My Hometown Heroes is a national scholarship fund for college bound cancer survivors enrolled in universities, community colleges, and trade schools. Our mission is to help bridge the gap between cancer and college, one scholarship at a time.
Every year there are over 77,000 young adults between the ages of 15 and 39 years old who are diagnosed with cancer. It’s one of the most overlooked and underserved populations in our country today as our scholarship candidates project an average student debt of $50,000 or more upon college graduation.
Through the power of creativity, community, and collaboration we inspire with stories of hope and progress.
