One year ago, our January message was titled, “Ethics is the Foundation Upon which our Company is Built”. As stated in our S.E.R.V.I.C.E. Principles, a commitment to ETHICS is foundational to maintaining relationships with our employees, customers, communities, vendors, regulatory agencies, and professional associations.
Ethics and integrity are closely related concepts that guide individuals' behavior and decision-making. Ethics refers to a set of moral principles and values that govern what is considered right or wrong in a particular society or profession. It provides a framework for individuals to make ethical judgments and act in an ethical manner. On the other hand, integrity is the quality of being honest, trustworthy, and having strong moral principles. It involves consistently adhering to one's ethical values and principles, even in challenging situations.
In essence, ethics is the foundation, and integrity is the manifestation of ethical behavior. While ethics provides the guidelines, integrity is the embodiment of those principles in one's actions and character.
Integrity is one of our core values. Here are some of the greatest quotes that embody integrity and what it means:
“Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching." - C. S. Lewis
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Integrity gives you real freedom because you have nothing to fear since you have nothing to hide." - Zig Ziglar
The first one we all know. As for the following 2 quotes, we challenge our readers to think of 2 things: as leaders we must look in the mirror and challenge ourselves to uphold our integrity during challenging times. And for our teams, do they have an environment where they can uphold integrity with nothing to fear?
Please let us know if you become aware of a company leader not upholding the highest standards of integrity, or have any concerns regarding ethical practices. While direct feedback is appreciated, you can also give anonymous feedback via https://basicresources.myethicsline.com/ or calling 877 211-0499.
