From February 2024 Newsletter:
February is American Heart Month, and the Reed Family Companies again “Going Red” to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke. We ask that you wear red on this Friday, February 2nd, to show your support for the fight against cardiovascular disease. Over the years we have lost beloved members of our work family at too young an age due to this disease and seen others unable to fully enjoy their retirements due to poor health. Every year in the United States, more than 350,000 people, including 23,000 children, suffer cardiac arrest. About 90% of those who experience cardiac arrest outside of the hospital die. The American Heart Association’s goal is to double the cardiac arrest survival rate by 2030 by increasing the number of people who know how to perform CPR in an emergency.
Cardiovascular disease and stroke are the #1 and #5 killers in the U.S., claiming about one life every 40 seconds. The good news is that we can take action to reduce the risk of this disease. While we take time in February to pay special attention to understanding, preventing, and treating heart disease — the leading cause of death in the nation — this newsletter contains a BUILD YOUR HEALTH section every month. Please read it to find tips on improving physical, mental, and emotional health and then commit to taking a small step each month that will add up to a healthier you over time. Going Red is an important part of our journey to building total wellbeing for everyone in our family!
It’s no secret that industrial careers are hard work.
They are physically and mentally demanding. Requiring early start times, long hours, strenuous activity and often, eating what’s on hand rather than what’s healthy. We also know that cardiovascular disease disproportionately affects construction industries. That’s why the American Heart Association created the Hard Hats with Heart initiative to engage industrial workers across the country and inspire them to live healthier, longer lives.
Construction Industry Resources & Tools:
Thanks to the investment of time, resources and dollars of numerous industry partners, the American Heart Association has produced industry specific resources for use on jobsites. Click the link below to view some of these resources:
