George Reed's Proactive Approach to Safety: Investing in the Future

We are all familiar with the traditional hard hat for head protection. Now, we are advancing to the next generation of head safety with the Safety Helmet.

While not mandated by regulations, the company is proactively investing in safety improvements. This forward-thinking approach, as opposed to reactive measures, is part of our commitment to fostering a robust safety culture by anticipating future needs rather than waiting for requirements to be enforced.

So, what is a Safety Helmet?

A safety helmet meets the ANSI Z89.1 Type II Class E Requirements for head protection. Some of the key differences with the new style helmet include:

-          Impact Protection from all directions. Traditional hard hats (Type I) only protect impacts from above, while Type II helmets offer wider protection from all directions. This improvement offers increased protection against Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

-          Chin Strap Retention. Statistics show that over 80% of all workers who suffered head injuries were not wearing head protection. Mandating the use of a chin strap considerably enhances safety measures, ensuring that our team members are better protected in the event of an incident.

Another proactive measure George Reed is implementing is requiring all new employees, regardless of experience, to wear a red safety helmet. This designation helps identify new team members, promotes coaching, and increases alertness to the heightened risks associated with new team members.

We were happy to roll out this investment to various departments at our Annual MSHA Safety Refresher Training. The evolution of hard hats began in 1919 and continues to innovate and improve protection for workers across the world. We are dedicated to maintaining a proactive safety culture and continuously improving employee safety.
