On Sept 22nd, we lost Tom Piz, 58, our Director of Human Resources unexpectantly. Tom had only been with us 5 years, but his leadership and contributions have forever transformed our Companies. Tom was passionate about employee development. He created and implemented our Reed Interactive University which served as a springboard for the development of the Managing Oneself: Empowering Others leadership course. Some of the first graduates from that class were tasked with expanding the Leadership Team’s principles, into more detailed tenants. Tom was the creative genius who re-arranged their words into an acronym that became our S.E.R.V.I.C.E. Principles.
Tom cared about our employee’s mental, physical, and spiritual health. When we joined “Hard Hats with Heart” to extend the reach of our wellness programs to more employees, the application form requested a single company logo. That spurred the creation of the Reed Family Companies logo with the “C” from our S.E.R.V.I.C.E. Principles becoming the tagline “Caring for our People, Customers, Community, and Environment”. We will be honoring Tom during the American Heart Association's 209 Heart and Stroke Walk in Lathrop on Saturday Oct. 7th.
Tom conducted an Employee Engagement Survey across all the Reed family companies in the Fall of 2021. As a result, a cross-company team, named BUILD, was formed to address the top three needs of the organization: which were to increase communication, boost employee recognition, and to increase the spiritual health of our employees by encouraging volunteerism and donations to local charities.
It is incredible that one person could have had such a huge impact on our family of employees in just the few years that he was with us. Tom was tremendously instrumental in supporting all that is good in our employees, and he shaped our company in a monumental and lasting way.
Tom will be sorely missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Adelaida Piz and his sisters, Maria Aspuru and Rose Piz. Donations in his memory can be made to either Kingdom Builders through Harvest Church of Turlock or to the Gospel Mission in Modesto, California.

In light of the recent passing of our colleague, Dr. Tom Piz from Human Resources, we wanted to make sure everyone is aware that the Reed Family of Companies has a free service, the Life Assistance Program.
