The Reed Family Companies' logo features the words “Caring for Our People, Customers, Communities, and Environment.” This is not just a slogan but is an integral part of the day-to-day operations in our companies. Below are some recent and visible ways in which we demonstrate our S.E.R.V.I.C.E. principle of CARING.
Caring for Our People
After two challenging years, we are back to hosting traditional employee appreciation events! In late August, an old-fashioned 711 Family Day was held at Splash-n-Dash water park on Lake McSwain. In September, families again enjoyed a River Cats game and dinner at “VSS Day at the Ball Park.” Basic Resources resumed their “Recognize, Celebrate, and Appreciate” event with lunch and a fun-filled afternoon at Dave and Busters.
Caring for Our Customers
In October, George Reed Inc. held the CT Tutthill Memorial Golf Tournament which raised scholarship funds for the New Melones Lake Scholarship in honor of CT. This event was free to employees, owners, builders, subcontractors, and vendors who are much appreciated business partners with GRI. One of the ways VSS International, Inc. cares for its customers is by hosting several one-day pavement preservation seminars during the winter months to provide education on various methods to extend pavement life. Caring for Our Community
The Reed Family Companies sponsored the xHope's Evening of Hope fundraiser in support of the “Caring for Kids” programs which provides educational, mentoring, and life skills development resources to foster, adoptive, and at-risk children in both the Sacramento and Elk Grove communities. Later in October, Jeff and Margaret Reed hosted a Shakespeare Event at their home for both employees and community to enjoy and to gain appreciation for one of the most influential writers in the English language. In November, VSS will be bringing equipment to the Touch-a-Truck community event that provides children a hands-on opportunity to see and touch heavy equipment and meet the people who operate it.
Caring for Our Environment
The Reed Family Companies are leaders in our industry for environmental sustainability. George Reed works with Caltrans to increase the amount of Recycled Asphalt in mix design specifications. 7/11 Materials was the first company in the Central Valley to implement CarbonCure’s concrete technology to permanently capture CO2 resulting in reduced emissions to the atmosphere. VSS is recognized as a leader in promoting the use of recycled tires in asphalt binders. KASI infrared patching equipment produced by Reed International allows for on-the-spot recycling of old asphalt into pavement repairs. Basic Resources developed the Jackson Valley Quarry Blue Oaks program in which acorns are planted in a natural pattern to ensure healthy long-lived trees that will eventually blend the reclaimed mining area into the surrounding hills and oak woodlands.
