Some studies have shown that consuming honey lowers cholesterol and has other health benefits, but the reason Jeff Reed started beekeeping was for fun. Steve Case, General Manager at 7-11 Materials, had shared so many stories of the enjoyment his family had with bee keeping that Jeff decided to buy a hive box and some gear. By lucky chance, a swarm of bees landed in the landscaping on the side of the Reed’s home. Margaret found the swarm when she got home from work and called Steve to get advice on what to do. He told her to just put a little honey on the entrance to the hive box and shove it into the mass of loudly humming bees. When Jeff got home later that evening most of the bees had moved into their new home, he was able to gather up the bees still remaining outside the box with a brush and dust pan.
